The first Fish Trap® was invented by ice fishing pioneer Dave Genz in his garage in 1980.  His original model is now the standard in the industry for all flip-over ice shelters.  Clam Corp. still proudly sells the re-engineered and updated original favorite.  The instantly recognizable blue color of Fish Trap® and The Clam® portable ice shelters is trademarked and exclusive to Clam Corp. Clam Corp. is the only ice shelter company to provide a linkable system between ice shelters, which is known as Trap-Link™. Clam Corp. has an Engineering Department dedicated solely to designing portable ice shelters.  They gather information from Dave Genz, Brian “Bro” Brosdahl, the entire network of Power Sticks, and ice fishermen across the country each year.  This unique system of engineering keeps Clam Corp. on the cutting edge of ice fishing.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recommends at least 4 inches of new, clear ice for safe travel on foot, 5 inches for snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles, and 8 to 12 inches for cars and small trucks. Ice fishing season starts as early as Thanksgiving in some Midwestern states, including Minnesota and North Dakota, and as late as Christmas for East Coast states, including Maine.   No specific license, other than a fishing license, is needed to ice fish. Ice fishing is one of the only sectors of fishing that continues to grow rapidly, at a pace of 10-15% a year.  The “Ice Belt” is comprised of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
