Troubleshooting

Our ice shelters are of the highest quality and extreme care is gone into each of our products on the market.  We know that you may have some questions along the way and we have provided a few troubleshooting measures that may help.

Problem: The Pole Glide Technology is not moving smoothly.
Possible cause: Although the poles are pre-lubricated at the factory, the lubrication can dry/evaporate prior to use.

Solution:  To maximize our Pole Glide Technology, we recommend spraying a small amount of WD-40® (or similar lubricant) into the openings (ends) of the Hoop Poles before assembling the shelter.  Next, turn the Hoop Pole over to let the excess lubricant drain off (stuffing paper towels into the ends of the tube before turning it over will help prevent the lubricant from dripping out onto the floor).  Finally, you may also want to lubricate the Seat Rail Tubes for easier back and forth seat movement.

Problem: It gets wet in my ice shelter.
Possible cause: A warm interior coupled with a cold exterior causes condensation.  This moisture collects on the poles, sides, and top of the house and drips inside the house.  The colder it gets outside, the worse the condensation becomes.

Solution: This is normal for all portable ice shelters and can best be controlled by opening the ventilation flaps in your shelter.

Problem: There is wear and tear on the fabric of my ice shelter.
Possible cause: As fabric is exposed to everyday use, there’s a natural and ongoing cycle of wear.  These are not signs of defective fabric.  The level of visible wear will be dependent on the amount of use.  As an example, the more you wear a favorite pair of blue jeans, the more the color fades and the fold lines become evident.  On a fish house the same holds true.  The more the house is used, the more the fabric is exposed to the elements, such as sun, cold, and friction.  Consequently, similar signs of wear become evident.  Again, this is normal and not a sign of defective fabric.

Solution: For cosmetic purposes you may want to apply a spray on rubber coating.  You can purchase this at a hardware store or home improvement center.  An example of one brand is:

Problem: The vinyl window on my ice shelter cracked.
Possible cause: A fold line pinching the area may have been created when the ice shelter was collapsed.

Solution: Replacement materials are available for order from Clam Corp.  After receiving the replacement part, we suggest taking the piece and the ice shelter to a local canvas shop near you for repair.
